The objective of Baccarat is to get a hand with a point total as near as possible to 9. In Baccarat, Aces count as one point, cards 2 to 9 are taken at their own value and tens and face cards count as zero. The player and banker are each dealt two cards. If the value of the hand is a two-digit number, the first digit is ignored and the last digit is the baccarat point value of the hand. For example 18 is counted as 8 and 10 is counted as 0.
Progressive Baccarat allows three types of wagers. It is possible to bet on the banker’s hand, the player’s or a tie. If the player’s hand totals 5 or less a third card is automatically drawn, this is known as the Third Card Rule. At the end of the deal, the one closest to 9 wins.
The payouts on Progressive Baccarat are as follows: a winning bet on the player option pays 2 to 1. A winning bet on the banker’s option pays 2 to 1 minus a 5% bank commission known as the vigorish. A winning bet on the tie option pays 9 to 1 and if a tie occurs non tie bets are returned to the player.
As its name indicates, Progressive Baccarat is linked to a Progressive Jackpot which players can try their luck at by making a side bet. The payouts are variable going from 10 times the amount of the progressive side bet, through 10,000 times the amount of the progressive side bet and ultimately to the whole Progressive Jackpot itself. The hands eligible for the progressive bets payouts are natural 6 – 9, Ace + 8 and suite Ace + 8. The Progressive Jackpot is triggered when both the player and dealer receive matching hands of suited Ace + 8.
